The Dreaded Transition Period. . . . . . . .

Well it was bound to happen.

After weeks of successful fishing the tide was due to turn.

Arriving early to Fisherman’s landing after days of great bluefin fishing I heard that the fleet was having a difficult day on the water. There were still bluefin being caught, but nothing like the few days previous. One neat thing that caught my eye was there were yellowfin in the count for the day as well.

As I met up with 17 other anglers we waited in anticipation for what our overnight journey may bring. The Condor and the Tracer came in and dumped some good grade Bluefin on the dock one of which was beautifully displayed at 112lb. on the Fisherman’s scale. Ahhhhh, this was going to be Bluefin or bust and I knew it! Our group left the dock fully intending o go long........

We stopped for the bait at Everingham's and, as we past the point, Joel received some news from good informants that there was a body of fish closer at @50 miles that really gave up some fish. We kicked down the throttles, cruised out slowly and stopped in the area at 3:00AM.

The water was a bit choppy as we drifted in the dark. Some passenger’s were restless, but could you blame them?

We were in Albacore Hell for the day and we knew it…but we ate REALLY well!!

As gray light came upon us the winds were at 12 knots and the skies were overcast! Joel announced the first troll team and we were off for the day! It was strange really, John Branum, "Wilson" was not on this trip due to business travels back East. And I had that feeling …Well I was right and that’s the way it went. Searching, searching, searching!

The skies even cleared and the wind dissipated, but Mother Nature was not going to give up her harvest. We trolled all day with great optimism that a stop would arrive and be the saving grace of the day, but after several good laughs, fantastic company, great food and maybe 15 skip jack we had to call it quits in disappointment and kick it for the barn.

Highlights of the trip were that angler Jim Brock was lucky enough to have "Jumping Jimmy" join us on a blind jig strike, a nice 20-22lb. Dorado taking home the Trophy.

Raffles were the biggest group highlight of the trip, with Seeker Blanks being awarded to Dean Smith of Moorpark and TunaQ. Kicker Jigs went to Jerry and Matt Whitebrook, George "Woody" Woodruff and Jose Landeros.

The Tuna day belt was won by Rick Hermosa, the tackle box went to Rex Loughran. The big prize as always is the reel. Today the Diawa SLV30 was won by no other than, Sol Searcher himself, Bob Kelly! Congratulations to you all.

Thank you Seeker, Kicker, B.C. Distributing and CTX for your continued support.

Next trip is trip 8 departing Fisherman’s landing next Thursday evening on a two-day event… Hold tight, the transition period should be over by then.

There are still 3 spots open on trip 10 so check the reservations page and get on board for a great day on the water,,, no matter what the fishing’ like.

Have a great week,

Jamie Spencer
