I pondered on how to present this past weekends trip report for trip 9 on board the Outer Limits. The days leading to the departure on Friday night showed great counts at all of the San Diego landings. The bite had gone practically WFO on the 10-20lb Albacore for the
one day fleet and the 2 day boats were in the big fish with Big Numbers. This same week I read a phenomenal report of 264 & 165lb Bigeye tuna taken around the area of the northern the 1010 by a private yachter. Even more so, my other skipper friend on the Conquest, Joel Ralston found a school of Bluefin that kept the boat busy for several hours in the same area we were headed to,
the "Airplane"!
All I could think of was that my clients from Arizona that had been reading my e-mail and newsletters for years were going to get the trip they deserved. A nice easy trip with good weather, calm seas and a great catch. Funny, what a difference a day
makes................Just look at the headlines in today's National newspapers.
All of us are appalled and angered by the terrible tragedy that has taken place in New York City. The unnecessary misery that has been visited on so many blameless Americans should not be forgotten or forgiven. Each of us should grieve for our fellow citizens who have
lost their lives while sitting innocently in their offices and just doing their jobs.
Unfortunately, there is very little else that any of us can do to help, other than to give full support to our government as it determines the appropriate action that is necessary to respond to this heinous act. Maintaining our National resolve will be of critical
importance when the emotions of the moment fade and life returns to a semblance of normality.
I ask that you take a moment to think about our dead and wounded and to reflect on the freedoms that the United States has given us.
With this statement, I reflect on the trip and say that the fishing was incredible, we had a great group of individuals, a great boat, good weather and the privilege to have Ol' Gordon Byrnes from Baja Sport fishing (Erik 105 San Felipe) on board entertaining and
making humorous conversation between stops and as he said it .... "The catching was poor not the trip." I coming out of the wheel house found that the bite slowed for most of the San Diego fleet. Should we have turned right at that last paddy? There were moments where we had the boat stopped and the hot hands for the day came into view...Rusty Alexander, Ira Yesselman, Steve
Raub, Bob Widney Jr. and Leslie ?(Sorry), the girlfriend of repeat client Dan Ross.
We wound up with 28 Albacore and 1 lone Skippy for the entire day, but we made friends for years to come... Knowing that the end of the fishing was not the end of the days events on a JES Sport Fishing trip, anglers spoke aloud of the upcoming dinner and raffles.
Kicker Jigs were won by Walt Gonzales, Bob Widney Jr. and Ira Yesselman. The Penn 500L was awarded to Dan Jensen, how subsequently ordered a new custom Seeker rod to mount his prize.
The Seeker blanks, a 270 e-glass was won by Chris Culbert and The CJB70, black steel was taken by Dave Widney from Glendale, AZ. a long time reader and supporter of JES Sport Fishing. Hope to have you all back soon. A very special, extra prize of a one day J.E.S trip for next year was raffled off and won by Dan Ross of Huntington Beach.
Jack Pot was won by none other than... Rusty Alexander of Dana Point who was ecstatic to see the trophy I presented him for his efforts.
Thanks to the great people at SEEKER RODS, Kicker Jigs and BC Distributing...for their product support.
Enclosing I must say that we all need to live our lives for the moment. Take part in your local activities. Don't substitute and day of pleasure with your family or friends over the earning of an all mighty dollar for each day can present a new challenge in life as
seen in this fine Country's last 36 Hours. Stand tall and salute, for America the strong is in need of our support and compassion during its recovery.
Thank you all and God bless America and our Freedom.
